Virginia Henderson’s nursing philosophy is known for its simplicity and inclusiveness. It centers around the patient with the nurse making him whole or complete. She says that the nurse is “a substitute for what the patient lacks” (1966, p. 21).

Ø Henderson wrote three classics: Basic Principles of Nursing Care (1960), The Nature of Nursing (1966), and Principles and Practice of Nursing (1978). Miss Henderson started her most important writing project at the age of 75 when she began the sixth edition of the Principles and Practice of Nursing text.
